 Epping Social 10km Hike & BBQ

Perfect for solo walkers and beginners

Join us for a Sunday countryside walk through the beautiful woodlands and open green space around Epping, followed by an optional BBQ at the Forest Gate Inn with the group.

A relaxed 10km social hike, good company, fresh air, and the option to round it all off with food and a drink in the pub garden after.

Who is it for?

This 10km circular route is perfect for all levels of fitness. Whether you’re completely new to hiking or already enjoy getting outdoors, the pace is easy, social, and beginner-friendly.

The route takes around 2 hours, finishing back near the Forest Gate Inn, where anyone who wants to can stay for the optional BBQ and drinks with the group. It’s a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning outdoors and meet some like-minded people along the way.

Can I come alone?

Absolutely! Most people come along on their own and quickly get chatting.

We understand first events can feel a bit daunting, but Jack and the team are there to welcome everyone and make sure the group feels relaxed and inclusive.

Everyone was a first-timer once. 😊

The Need-to-Knows

Start location: Forest Gate Inn 111 Bell Common, Epping CM16 4DZ, UK Forest Gate Inn – Pub Epping

Hike Start Time:  Arrival at 9:45am for a 10:00am start

Difficulty Easy – The route takes roughly 2 hours , with a relaxed social pace.

What do I need to bring?

🙂 Yourself – There is free parking available on site at the station and surrounding streets or a short taxi ride from Epping Station ( Central Line)

🍽️ Food / water – We recommend a small backpack, 1-1.5L of water, snacks if you'd like them

🥾 Suitable footwear – Spring is doing its thing and the ground is drying out, but there’s still a bit of lingering mud about, so we’d still recommend walking boots.

📸 Camera – The woodlands and surrounding countryside offer some great opportunities for nature shots. 

🍻 Money for drinks/food at the pub – totally optional, but we’d love you to join us for the BBQ and a drink at the Forest Gate Inn after the hike
