  Warley -Social Saturday Hike - 10KM

Perfect for solo walkers and beginners

Spend a Saturday morning exploring Warley and the surrounding Brentwood countryside on a relaxed 10km social hike, followed by optional drinks at a local pub with the group.

Our route will take us through woodland, countryside and the beautiful Warley Place Nature Reserve, once the home and gardens of renowned horticulturist Ellen Willmott. Today, the reserve is a peaceful mix of woodland, wildflowers, historic ruins and remnants of the original gardens.

Is this hike for me?

This 10km circular route is suitable for all levels of fitness. Whether you're completely new to hiking or already enjoy getting outdoors, we'll keep the pace easy, friendly and sociable.

The route will take approximately 2–2.5 hours, before finishing back at The Thatchers Arms in Great Warley, where anyone who would like to stay is welcome to join us for a well-earned drink and a catch-up with the group.

Coming alone?

Absolutely. Lots of people come to Essex Adventures events on their own, and you definitely won't be the only one.

Our hikes are designed to be friendly and sociable, and we'll make sure you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.

Hike Start Time  Arrival at 9:45am for a 10:00am start

Difficulty  Easy – The route takes roughly 2 hours , with a relaxed social pace.

Pub Drinks - After the hike, anyone heading to the pub is very welcome to join us, but please note that all travel after this point is your own responsibility.

What do I need to bring?

Yourself – Thatchers Arms, Great Warley, Warley Rd, Great Warley, Brentwood CM13 3HU, UK

Food / water – We recommend a small backpack, 1-1.5L of water, snacks if you'd like them

Suitable footwear – Much of the route is off-road so walking boots are strongly recommended. We have many tales of trainers that didn’t survive the Essex mud…

Camera – The woodlands and surrounding countryside offer some great opportunities for nature shots. 

Money for drinks/food at The Thatchers Arms – Totally optional but we would love you to join us for a some drinks at the end of the hike.
