About

ESSEX CHALLENGE SERIES #3

EPPING - RIVER LEA

For regular hikers looking for a long distance challenge

As the series progresses, so does the challenge.

The Epping and River Lea route (32km) is where things begin to feel more demanding, a step up that tests both endurance and mindset as the miles start to build.

Covering a full 32km across varied terrain, this route is designed for those ready to go beyond our Adventure hikes and settle into longer distances. It’s not just about completing the distance, it’s about maintaining pace, managing your energy, and staying focused throughout.

Expect a long, steady day on your feet. A consistent 5km/h pace, tired legs, and moments where you’ll need to dig in and keep moving forward.

Whether you’re working through the series or taking this on as a one-off challenge, you’ll be part of a supportive group all showing up with the same goal , to push themselves and see what they’re capable of.

What to expect

  • A 32km circular long-distance route across varied terrain

  • A steady, purposeful pace (around 5km/h)

  • Extended time on your feet across mixed terrain

  • A supportive, motivating group environment

  • A clear step up in distance and challenge

Who is it for?

  • Those comfortable with 25–30km distances

  • Regular hikers ready to step into longer challenges

  • Anyone looking to build endurance and confidence

  • Not suitable for beginners

Can I come alone?

Absolutely! Many people come along on their own and quickly get chatting.

Our hikes are designed to be welcoming and inclusive, and Jack and the team are there to make sure everyone feels comfortable and supported throughout the day.

Everyone was new once. 😊

"Today was the 2nd trek I have completed with Essex adventures and I have to say it did not disappoint. From ease of organisation, clear communication to the meticulous detail of the route plans, Jack and team made this a truly memorable experience. A 24 kilometre hill hike passed in the blink of an eye because it was pure fun and full of laughs. Great day guys, thank you for your conversations and encouragement and can not wait to book another adventure! And just to add, for anyone debating doing to do a trek solo and not part of a wider group, don’t hesitate, the team will make you feel more than welcome!" Ilona, March -26
